Minister Sackey Faces Criticism Over Handling of Exam Results and Student Welfare, Citizens Raise Concerns
Sierraloaded Sierra Leone’s Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, has come under heavy criticism from concerned citizens for his recent actions, particularly regarding the announcement of national exam results and the handling of issues with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The Minister’s approach has been described as unprofessional and dismissive of the serious challenges faced by students and teachers across the country. Critics argue that Sackey’s failure to address the widespread discontent over the delayed release of exam results, and his reluctance to investigate the unlawful withholding of these results by WAEC, has left thousands of students without access to their fundamental right to education.
Sierra Leoneans have also expressed frustration with Sackey’s decision to halt initiatives that once supported students, such as opportunities for repeaters. This move, they argue, exacerbates the already high dropout rates and threatens the future of young people in the country.
Adding to the growing discontent, many have voiced concern that Sackey’s actions appear to be driven by personal interests rather than a genuine commitment to improving the nation’s education system. This perception has led some to suggest that the Minister may be retaliating against those he is meant to serve, raising questions about his leadership and priorities.
The minister of Sierra Leone education has forstrated us by withholding our results.
Government has to take action against this minister called sackey since he takes over as the MBSSE the educational system including
the outcome of public exams in the country has not been encouraging the number of dropped out pupils are increasing after every public exam actions need to be put in place before the future of our youths is been destroyed by one person
The system of our education is gradually loosing it quality. WAEC can no longer handle the conduct of our national exams as 95% students write the exams with phones and or other unauthorized materials. Majority of the students no longer see the essence of reading or taking classes for national exams; all they believe now is the use of phones or other materials during exams.
Therefore, waec normally penalizes students by withholding their results as a means to mitigate examination malpractice which to my own view is not fear, especially for students that genuinely wrote the exam in a professional manner.
We need the quality back in our educational system!!!
Why were the results withheld?

I am only concerned about malpractices during examinations, especially, public exams where pupils openly violate examination and Ministry directives or guidelines. Example: no phones on extra materials into examination hall, no sharing of materials or materials suspected to be undesirable. This evidence is gathered during examination period but no body, organization dares come in then, only when corrective measures are effected where we see comments of congeminations will start to emerge. Where are we in the face of responsible citizenship?
The question should be, why was the results withhold? And again the Minister should come out and answer this question. For all i know, there must be a reasons for this. It has been happening even before this time, is not a new system afterwards.
Really this minister is destroying the of future of Sierra Leone’s educational system. But hence you sit and watch without talking actions you failed to know that he is damaging the educational system in Sierra Leone 🇸🇱.
