Canada-Based Sierra Leonean Man Dies in Freetown Following Hit-and-Run Accident
Samuel James Decker, a resident of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, passed away on December 10, 2024, in Freetown, Sierra Leone, after sustaining injuries in a hit-and-run accident.
Decker, affectionately known as “Sammy,” had returned to Sierra Leone for the holiday season.
Following the accident, Decker was transported to a local hospital in Lumley. However, despite initial medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries.
Family members and friends in Winnipeg, Canada, expressed deep sorrow and frustration, alleging that the hospital provided false hope regarding Decker’s condition.
The incident has renewed concerns about the quality of healthcare in Sierra Leone, with some criticizing the alleged lack of transparency and the pursuit of financial gain over patient care.
Decker is survived by his wife, Roasline, his children, and numerous relatives and friends in Sierra Leone and the diaspora.

I always say this, Salone medical doctors and nurses only know how to treat malaria and typhoid, they know nothing again, except to request for large sum of money to finally kill the patient. I’ve never witnessed a person involved in an accident and then survive the treatment in a hospital in this country. They’ll finally kill you because they know nothing about medical.
