Mohamed Bangura Announces Intent to Resign from Parliament
Umu Bah Hon. Mohamed Bangura, a former member of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), has publicly declared his intention to resign from Parliament.
Speaking on AYV’s ‘Wake Up Sierra Leone’ on Monday, Bangura emphasized that his decision was based on personal principles rather than any disputes with his former political party.
He also clarified that his resignation was unrelated to the APC’s stance on the Proportional Representation (PR) system, a contentious issue in the country’s political landscape.
“With or without the PR system, I am going to quit Parliament. My resignation has nothing to do with the APC; it is based on my principles,” Bangura stated.
His announcement comes amid ongoing debates over electoral reforms, particularly the implementation of the PR system. Political analysts view his decision as a significant shift in Sierra Leone’s political landscape, signaling a move away from party loyalty toward individual convictions.
Despite repeated inquiries, Bangura declined to elaborate on the specific personal values that influenced his decision, leaving room for speculation among political observers.
