Chief Minister, David Sengeh Distances SLPP Chairmanship Position
Sorie Abubakar Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, David Sengeh has distanced himself from the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Chairmanship position after a flyer linked him to the position last week.
Sengeh was swift to dismiss the flyer, pointing out that it was fake and that he had no intention of running for the position.
“I have served the great SLPP as a chairman in two capacities,” he said drawing reference to his previous roles as chairman of the party’s Independent Elections Monitoring and Oversight Committee and the Constitution Review Committee.
“I believe that the next party Chairman to succeed Dr. Harding has a herculean task and a big pair of shoes to fill in,” the Chief Minister said.
He assured to provide the necessary support the next chairman would need to run their office.
“I will be there in my capacity to give support for that person so they thrive,” he said.
He added that the SLPP is a party in which members support each other to deliver.
He ended by calling on members of the public to be wary of fake posters meant to mislead people.
The SLPP is currently holding lower-level elections in various constituencies across the country. The elections are a significant step for the party as they prepare for the 2028 national multi-tier election.
