President Bio Departs to Nigeria for Agricultural Working Visit
Sorie Abubakar Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has embarked on a working visit to Nigeria, where he will spend four days engaging in high-level discussions aimed at boosting agricultural innovation and collaboration.
The visit, which runs from March 3 to 6, will see President Bio hosted at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) headquarters in Ibadan, Nigeria. The primary focus of the trip is to explore new pathways to enhance agricultural advancements tailored for Sierra Leone and to further the objectives of the Feed Salone Agenda.
Upon his arrival, President Bio will be received by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday, March 4.
Governor Makinde’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju, confirmed the visit in a statement issued on Sunday.
The statement highlighted that President Bio’s itinerary includes a tour of the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub in Oyo, a key project showcasing the state’s commitment to agricultural and industrial development.
Governor Makinde extended a warm welcome to President Bio and his delegation, emphasizing the pride of the people of Oyo State in hosting the Sierra Leonean leader.
“President Bio and his team will have the opportunity to experience Oyo State’s rich history and heritage, which has earned it the title of pacesetter,” the governor said.
“They will also witness key developments, such as the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub, which reflects our government’s progress in driving economic growth through agriculture.”

What can one learn from a country that is also facing dire food insecurity? The other day the ministry of agriculture distributed few tonnes of seed rice to a handful of farmers and I asked myself when will Sierra Leone stop being a welfare state?
