Former President Ernest Bai Koroma Accuses Samura Kamara of Betraying the APC
A leaked phone conversation has surfaced, allegedly revealing deep divisions within the All People’s Congress (APC) party and raising concerns over internal betrayal following the June 24, 2023 elections.
The call, reportedly involving former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, suggests that APC’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara, held confidential talks with President Julius Maada Bio without consulting key party stakeholders.
The audio also claims that Kamara used proxies to target party members while failing to condemn negative remarks made by his personal bloggers about the APC leadership.
In the leaked conversation, Koroma recounted questioning Kamara about the bloggers who supported him and criticized the APC. Koroma alleged that despite Kamara denying any involvement with the bloggers, he never formally condemned their actions.
Furthermore, Koroma claimed that after a private conversation with Kamara, some bloggers repeated his statements, prompting him to inquire how his words were leaked. Another significant revelation was a meeting between Samura Kamara, Minkailu, Yansaneh, and Tunis.
According to Koroma, these APC leaders told him that Kamara had met with President Bio to develop an internal dispute resolution process within the party to address disagreements without external intervention.
Koroma expressed that he had informed them that he was no longer the APC chairman or its presidential candidate, advising them to handle the matter independently.
Frustrated, the former president lamented that if the party had taken a firm stance following the election, the current crisis could have been avoided. He also referenced his past experience managing challenging elections in Kenya and Zambia, stressing that political integrity and unity were crucial to overcoming such challenges.
The leaked conversation has sparked debates about the APC’s stability and leadership strategy. As the party embarks on reforms under an 84-resolution agreement, these new revelations complicate the already tense political landscape.
Neither Samura Kamara nor the APC leadership has officially responded to the allegations in the leaked call. However, the admission raises serious questions about trust, loyalty, and the party’s future as it faces upcoming political challenges.
