Mayor Aki-Sawyerr to Host 4th Nalafem Summit in Freetown
Sahid Bangura Freetown City Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, has on Sunday, June 29, announced that she will be hosting the 4th Nalafem Summit scheduled for July 1st and 2nd in Freetown.
Organized by the Nalafem Collective, the summit aims to empower women leaders across Africa, gathering 100 participants including government ministers, parliamentarians, young leaders, activists, and survivors.
Under the theme “From Representation to Power: Women Leading in Crisis & Peace,” the summit seeks to foster dialogue and collaboration among leaders dedicated to advancing women’s roles in crisis and peacebuilding.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “I am honored to host the 4th Nalafem Summit in Freetown.”
The summit will feature prominent speakers, including UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, who will join via video, and Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa’s first elected female president.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr also noted that the event promises “powerful conversations, bold commitments, and deep intergenerational exchange.” For those unable to attend in person, the summit will be livestreamed, with details to be shared on Tuesday.
The initiative notably reflects the commitment of the Nalafem Collective and the City of Freetown to champion women’s leadership and ensure their voices are heard in critical discussions about crisis and peace.
