Renowned Sierra Leonean musician Emmerson Bockarie has taken to social media to clarify the meaning behind his music and respond to criticism he has faced over the years.
In his statement, Emmerson emphasized that his message has never been about supporting any political party, whether the All People’s Congress (APC) or the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
Since releasing his first single in 2003, Emmerson said he initially believed the backlash he received stemmed from his references to political parties. However, with time, he came to understand that the resistance he encounters goes beyond politics. He described it as a deeper struggle a battle between light and darkness.
“I chose light,” he stated, “and since then, I have faced resistance.” He added that his recent message should serve as a record that even if a new political party replaces the one currently in power, he will continue to speak out. Emmerson stressed that he is not involved in party politics but is committed to staying true to his purpose. Regardless of who holds power, he believes his message will always be challenged by some.

He also addressed individuals who, in his view, hide behind political affiliations to pursue personal agendas and bring others down. Emmerson said he has learned to look beyond party labels and recognize when politics is being used as a cover for personal motives.
In response to claims that he is blocking opportunities for others, Emmerson dismissed the idea. He noted that if speaking out on political issues had truly made him wealthy or powerful, then others even the friends or relatives of his critics could have followed the same path and achieved the same level of influence.

Ultimately, Emmerson reiterated that his work has never been about political allegiance. Instead, he said, it is about remaining faithful to what he believes is right regardless of which political party is in control

Sing nonsense.. tank’s GOD we sl don aware now.. no lunching we no dae go again…
Emerson has nothing to tell the people of this country,he has proven himself that he’s mende man in favour of the current regime but again am glad that all the songs he sang during the past regime is what his people are facing presently ie hardships,no freedom of expression, rapid inflation to name but few..To me he sang those songs for the past regime but indirectly is for the current regime because all what he sang has happened and still happening..
Why does Emerson think his voice is relevant anymore? He has already shown his true color especially at a time when the people of this country need a voice to speak for them. Abeg go wait bo mek man dem think about something better

Well said Emerson! Just be mute forever. Whenever power change just stay put.
