The legal and academic communities in Sierra Leone are mourning the loss of Hon. Justice Dr. Abou Bhakarr Muhammed Binneh-Kamara, who has passed away.
He was a Justice of the Court of Appeal, part of Sierra Leone’s Superior Court of Judicature, and the first Dean of the newly established Faculty of Law at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.

Hon. Justice Dr. Binneh-Kamara was appointed as Dean in November 2023 when the Faculty of Law was officially launched at Fourah Bay College (FBC), which is part of the University of Sierra Leone. He led the faculty during its early stage of development and had also served as a senior lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at Fourah Bay College, making him well known across both legal and academic circles.

Until his passing, he served as a High Court Judge. On April 30, 2025, he was named among a group of judicial officers appointed by President Brig. Rtd. Dr. Julius Maada Bio. His nomination was confirmed by Parliament on May 23, 2025, where he was one of three judges approved for promotion to the Court of Appeal. His legal career stretched across more than fifteen years, with service in different parts of the country.
Justice Binneh-Kamara’s sudden death is being felt deeply by colleagues in both the justice system and the university. He played key roles in court and in legal education, becoming a central figure in shaping the country’s legal future.
