The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has announced the establishment of five independent corporate bodies aimed at enhancing the welfare and economic empowerment of its personnel.
The initiative was revealed by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Amara Idara Bangura, who emphasized the military’s commitment to not only national defense but also the well-being and productivity of its members.
During a press briefing, General Bangura stated that those corporate bodies will operate outside the traditional military chain of command, allowing for greater flexibility and efficiency in managing various ventures.

The new entities will focus on key sectors such as agriculture, road construction, and entrepreneurship, reflecting a broader vision for the RSLAF’s role in national development.
In the agriculture sector, as confirmed by Lieutenant General Bangura, the RSLAF has initiated a substantial project involving a 1,000-hectare cashew farm located in Port Loko.

The military notably aims to become the largest producer of cashew nuts in the country by the year 2026, while also working towards achieving self-sufficiency in rice production.
Bangura revealed that the RSLAF is actively engaging in road infrastructure projects. The military is currently bidding for contracts to construct feeder roads connecting Mile 91 to Buedu and Koindu, as well as undertaking internal road works within military barracks.
