Popular CSO Activist Declares Candidacy for SLPP Publicity Secretary Position
Sia Lucy Kannah Moses Sellu Mambu, popularly referred as “CSO Mambu” civil society activism, has officially announced his candidacy for the role of Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
Mambu, originally from Kailahun District, began his activism during his high school years, motivated by a desire to advocate for the marginalized.
His dedication was further solidified at Fourah Bay College, where he actively engaged in various civil society organizations focused on accountability and development. He enhanced his communication skills through international studies, aiming to integrate technology with activism.
Despite his years in civil society, Mambu has clearly articulated his shift into politics, emphasizing his dedication to national development through political service while pledging to uphold his integrity. He believes his extensive grassroots experience uniquely qualifies him to represent and articulate the needs of Sierra Leoneans.
However, public reaction largely reflects a sense of disappointment. Many feel that his entry into partisan politics undermines the credibility of his previous work as an impartial advocate.
The criticism centers on the perceived abandonment of his civil society principles for political advantage, leading a significant portion of the public to question his motivations and the authenticity of his past activism.
Finally, this backlash, particularly from opposition groups and the media outlet “Wi Yard,” arises from the perception that Mambu’s years of advocacy were merely a strategic facade to conceal his political ambitions and support for the current government.
