A serious accident happened along Jui Road this week after a white Toyota Hilux pick-up van collided with a red off-road vehicle. The collision sent the off-road vehicle swerving over the paved highway and into the nearby bush.
The impact was heavy, and many thought the worst had happened but luckily, nobody died.
Eyewitnesses say the Hilux was over-speeding before losing control and hitting the off-road. Both vehicles were badly damaged, but the drivers survived with only minor injuries.
This is not the only road incident that happened recently. Just a few days earlier, there was a gruesome crash along the Bo–Freetown Highway, where a parked truck was hit by another vehicle. That accident sadly led to three deaths and left others injured.
In the past months, highways like Makeni and Wellington have also recorded similar accidents, some with even higher death tolls.
These repeated crashes have left people worried and are a clear sign that road safety needs serious attention especially with speeding, poor visibility, and little enforcement on major roads in Sierra Leone. Authorities have cautioned drivers to avoid over-speeding and to bey traffic rules, especially during the wet season.
