U.S. Government Confirms Over $2 Million Spent in Combating MPox in Sierra Leone

The United States Government has confirmed its support for Sierra Leone in the fight against the Mpox outbreak, contributing over $2 million to aid response efforts.

As reported by the U.S. Embassy in Freetown, the funding has played a key role in reducing the number of cases from a peak of 200 per day in April to single digits in August.

The coordinated efforts of the National Public Health Agency, the Ministry of Health, and various partners have been deemed helpful in bringing the outbreak under control.

The U.S. investment included funding for regional and plenary sessions of the Mpox Intra-Action Review, which took place on the 11th and 12th of August, 2025.

Those sessions gathered key stakeholders to evaluate successes, address ongoing challenges, and strategize on the path forward to completely eliminate the outbreak.
