The Parliamentary Committee on Communication, Technology and Innovation, on Thursday, August 21, 2025, visited the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation as part of its constitutional mandate to assess progress, review ongoing work, and discuss challenges in the sector.
The Minister Salima Monorma Bah highlighted some of the big wins of her ministry, which include the launch of West Africa’s first open-access 5G network, new UADF sites bringing connectivity to remote communities, Sierra Leone’s improved global cybersecurity ranking, the introduction of free roaming, and the boost from a second international landing cable.
She also highlighted the contributions of Zoodlabs and Leonecom in expanding access. On technology, she pointed to the rollout of official government email services across MDAs and the soon-to-launch Human Resource Hub to improve efficiency and transparency. On innovation, she celebrated the Sierra Leone Innovates Summit, now held for two years running as a platform for local talent and digital government. The Minister added that reviving Sierratel and SALPOST is a top government priority, since both institutions remain vital for keeping people connected and services running.
The Minister also acknowledged challenges, adding that while policies and strategies provide direction, they are often difficult to implement without clear regulations that guide action and ensure accountability.
