The Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd. AIG Morie Lengor Esq, together with the Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, and the Deputy Chief Fire Officer of the National Fire Force, Mr. John Santigie Koroma, met with the Director General of the National Telecommunications Authority (NaTCA), Mr. Amara Brewah, and his senior management team at NaTCA’s Hill Station office.

The meeting focused on enhancing and modernizing the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and National Fire Force (NFF) emergency toll-free call centers, aiming to improve safety and security for citizens across the country.

Furthermore, the rationale according to Minister Morie Lengor is for the SLP and the NFF existing emergency toll-free lines to be reviewed and enhanced, so that they can become a national security toll-free line.

Also, it was agreed in the meeting to have a technical team to develop a detailed and comprehensive strategy for the short, medium, and long term to enhance public safety, public confidence, and easy accessibility of emergency services.

The Director General of NaTCA, Mr. Amara Brewah, in his short remarks, expressed approval and enthusiasm towards the Minister’s initiative and action, implying it will lead to an improvement for the safety and security of the Country and its Citizens.

Finally, the ideal also includes a simplified universal way to help citizens get immediate help during a crisis, by offering a single memorable number for various emergency services, like the police, ambulance, or fire department, and national disaster, among others.
