The Western Area Football Association (WAFA) has announced the immediate suspension of the Central One Football Association (COFA) Community League, originally scheduled to kick off on Sunday, 31st August 2025.
In a statement released to the public and key football stakeholders, WAFA cited “serious administrative irregularities” and COFA’s failure to adhere to directives from the parent body as the primary reasons for halting the tournament.
The association also confirmed that authorities have been instructed to restrict access to facilities for the league during the suspension period. WAFA emphasized its commitment to transparent, accountable, and well-governed football operations across the Western Area.
The suspension raises questions about the future of the league, especially if COFA attempts to proceed despite WAFA’s directive.
Football observers note that such defiance could trigger disciplinary sanctions against individuals or community teams and might even escalate to higher administrative action under Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) statutes.
