The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, engaged World Bank officials Robert O’Brien and Madhu Raghunath on urban development collaboration.
On her Facebook page, she stated, “On Tuesday, 26th August 2025, in Accra, Ghana, at the World Bank office, I held a productive meeting with the World Bank’s Country Director for Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, Robert O’Brien, and Madhu Raghunath, Country Practice Manager for Urban Development, Resilience, and Land Global Practice.”
She further stated, that she had emphasized the need for stronger support to local councils to address city challenges including rapid urbanization.

Mr. O’Brien outlined the Bank’s vision for greater impact, scale, and outcomes across its programs. We agreed to continue collaboration on active World Bank projects with Freetown City Council (FCC) and discussed sectors for future interventions in order to deliver tangible urban development and governance outcomes. Mayor Aki-Sawyerr Informed.
