Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has officially commenced its Regional Cartographic Mapping Training in Bo, Kenema, Makeni, Port Loko, and Freetown, a critical milestone in preparations for the 2026 Population and Housing Census.

The week-long training, which began on Monday, 8th September 2025, is taking place simultaneously across the five regional headquarters towns, marking the second phase of the cartographic mapping exercise.

The program focuses on enhancing the capacity of regional field officers and mapping specialists in modern cartographic techniques, ensuring accurate geographic data collection and effective mapping of enumeration areas nationwide.

Trainers and participants will acquire advanced skills in digital mapping and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), essential for the upcoming nationwide cartographic mapping exercise.

“This phase is crucial to ensure that every household and community across Sierra Leone is accurately captured,” Stats SL noted.

The data generated will form the cornerstone of reliable demographic and housing information, supporting evidence-based planning and sustainable national development.
