During the Civic Day Series in Makeni, Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Mrs Nabeela Farida Tunis, announced a remarkable 50% increase in visitors from key source markets in 2024 compared to previous years.

She disclosed while speaking at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education’s Civic Day Series held at UNIMAK Hall, Makeni, where ministers and government stakeholders gathered to discuss national development priorities.

In her address, Minister Tunis outlined both the achievements and challenges facing the tourism sector, stressing the importance of citizen participation in sustaining the gains.

She emphasized that tourism is not solely a government-driven agenda but a national movement that requires the collective effort of all Sierra Leoneans.

“It is the responsibility of every citizen to be a Tourism Ambassador by sharing something positive about our country,” she said, underscoring that positive storytelling is key to attracting more visitors.

The Minister commended the organizers of the Civic Day Series and reaffirmed her Ministry’s commitment to using such platforms to deepen tourism awareness at the community level.

She further noted that promoting Sierra Leone’s image is central to the Ministry’s vision under the Year of Ecotourism, urging citizens to embrace their civic duty in showcasing the nation’s beauty and potential to the world.
