The Sierra Leone U-17 girls’ national team has been crowned champions of the WAFU Zone A U-17 Girls Tournament in Liberia, securing the title with a game to spare following a 1-1 draw against Senegal.
The Leone Princesses, as they are known, clinched the title after a hard-fought match at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex. Senegal took an early lead with a goal from Astou Diouf in the 6th minute.
The Sierra Leonean side, however, pushed for an equalizer, which came in the 87th minute courtesy of Ruth M. Bawoh.

Bawoh’s dramatic late goal leveled the score and sealed the championship for Sierra Leone. The result brings their total points to seven, placing them at the top of the table and making them mathematically uncatchable.
For her stellar performance, which included the decisive equalizing goal, Ruth M. Bawoh was named Woman of the Match.
The team will play their final match of the tournament as champions.
