Marie Stopes Sierra Leone on Friday, 19th September 2025, held a one-day engagement with men in Pujehun District to raise awareness about contraceptive use and emphasize the vital role men play in family planning.

The event brought together participants from various communities to learn, share experiences, and discuss how male involvement can strengthen family health and decision-making.

In her keynote address, Madam Adama Dorcas Koroma, Regional Integrated Marketing Lead-Southeast of Marie Stopes Sierra Leone, highlighted the organization’s commitment to reaching both rural and urban communities with accurate family planning information.

She stressed that empowering men with knowledge about contraceptives reduces maternal risks, improves child health, and helps families plan a better future.

The Pujehun District Mentor of Marie Stopes Sierra Leone led detailed presentations on available contraceptive methods, their uses, effectiveness, and potential side effects, while addressing common misconceptions and cultural barriers. Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and engage in open discussions about reproductive health.

Several attendees expressed appreciation for the practical demonstrations and clarity of the information, with many noting it was their first comprehensive exposure to such guidance.

Mr. Mustapha Conteh, Chairman of the Men’s Engagement, praised the initiative, urging men to take shared responsibility in family planning. “The well-being of our wives and children depends on decisions we make together. This program has opened our eyes,” he said.

The engagement concluded with a renewed commitment from participants to champion family planning in their communities.

Marie Stopes Sierra Leone reaffirmed its dedication to continuing community-based initiatives as part of its mission to provide high-quality sexual and reproductive health services nationwide.
