The third day of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Regional Conference in Freetown focused on ushering in “A New Era of Trade and Prosperity,” highlighting the pivotal role of regional leadership in advancing inclusive economic growth across the continent.

Experts, government representatives, and private sector leaders convened to discuss strategies aimed at unlocking the full potential of AfCFTA. The sessions centered on key themes including:

Simplifying Rules of Origin to make it easier for African businesses to trade across borders;

Strengthening the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) to ensure faster and safer trade payments within the continent; and

Protecting Intellectual Property Rights to boost innovation and creativity across industries.

Speakers emphasized that stakeholder engagement remains essential for the success of AfCFTA. For the agreement to deliver its transformative promise, businesses, entrepreneurs, and trade groups must fully understand the opportunities and mechanisms it provides.

Delegates agreed that Africa’s single market represents a game-changing opportunity for sustainable economic growth. Sierra Leone, they noted, is taking decisive steps to ensure that no one is left behind in this bold drive toward continental transformation.
