The Northwest Regional Police Division in Port Loko City has launched a full-scale investigation into the death of a military officer, identified as Sergeant Bayoh, who was reportedly found dead under suspicious circumstances near the Commodity Trading Company (CTC) Mining site at Gbere Junction, Port Loko District.

According to the police report, the discovery was made on October 27, 2025, after Umaru Bilkish Kamara, a Community Liaison Officer working with CTC Mining Company, and Corporal Conteh (M18181706), also attached to the company, found the body of the deceased inside a pit hole.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the officer may have been attacked and killed by unknown assailants before being thrown into the pit.

The gruesome discovery has caused panic and heightened security concerns within Gbere Junction and its surrounding communities. Residents have reportedly expressed fear over the incident, calling for immediate action from the authorities to ensure their safety.

In response, a joint operation involving the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. Sources on the ground confirmed that several arrests have been made as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Resident Minister of the Northwest Region, Ambassador Bon Wurie, has condemned the killing and urged the security forces to tighten surveillance and bring the perpetrators to justice. He also appealed to local authorities and community stakeholders to cooperate fully with the investigation.

Meanwhile, eyewitness reports indicate that Gbere Junction and nearby communities remain under tight security, as the joint security forces continue their operations in the area.
