President Julius Maada Bio has cautioned Sierra Leoneans against the growing “Temple Run” practice a term used to describe the risky migration of citizens seeking better opportunities abroad through dangerous and irregular routes.
President Bio expressed deep concern over the increasing number of young people leaving the country with hopes of a better life, only to face grave dangers in the desert and at sea.
“People are dying in the desert and at sea,” the President lamented. “Let us stay and build Sierra Leone together. Anywhere you go that is not your home, when they are ready to send you back, they will bundle you and send you back to your country.”
He stressed the need for a collective national effort to improve the country’s development and create opportunities locally, urging citizens to focus their energy and skills on rebuilding Sierra Leone rather than risking their lives in perilous journeys abroad.
Temple Run is the illegal migration of Sierra Leoneans and other West Africans to Europe through the Sahara Desert. The illegal migration is named after the infamous mobile phone game, Temple Run due to the numerous constraints migrants face using the route.
Recently, an Al Jazeera documentary revealed the constraints West African migrants face including systemic racism and suffering from Tunisian authorities.
The UN International Organisation for Migration has warned locals in the sub-region to refrain from making the dangerous journey up north. The organisation has also been providing support to migrants stranded in the desert.

This is a good warning to all, wait for the right time. When the time is reach no body can stop it.Epecially God’s time.
Mr Prezo, kindly endeavor to create the enabling environment that discourages youth from life threatening migration, one that attracts them to a vibrant & encouraging economic atmosphere where their bright futures become enhanced & assured. Lots have to do with good governance, thorough economic sanitization, sound policies that enhances greater attraction to global investments in the country, prudent financial management, discourage unbridled financial mismanagement, consider the adoption of certain progressive policies applied by members of the OES communities that are placing them higher in their developmental trajectories. Place significant interest in education across the board, more especially technical, vocational, sciences, technology & innovation. Discourage, do all in your power to discourage that brain drain scenario drive away youthful resources. Many miles re you could do to lift this country up. Wishing you well in all your endeavors.
