Health Alert, a civil society organisation (CSO) is deeply concerned about the findings of the 2024 Auditor General’s Report, which highlights widespread poor financial management and weak accountability across several Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The CSO has also urged the Chief Minister to take full responsibility for these failures. They argued that, as outlined in his mandate, the Chief Minister is tasked with ensuring effective performance management, overseeing ministries, and driving accountability through measurable indicators and data-driven governance.
Health Alert said that this responsibility is operationalised through contract signing with ministers and heads of MDAs.
They said it is therefore expected that before any new contract is signed, proper accountability of financial resources including assets procured with taxpayers’ money must be ensured. “These resources should be used judiciously and transparently accounted for,” Health Alert said.
They affirmed that The Chief Minister’s failure to enforce these accountability measures has culminated in massive losses, mismanagement, and poor record-keeping of public resources, as identified in the Auditor General’s Report.
Against this backdrop, Health Alert calls on the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Parliament and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to launch thorough investigations into all MDAs implicated in the report. They affirmed that those found guilty of mismanagement or failure to properly account for taxpayers’ money must be held accountable immediately.

In Sierra Leone, the marginal social sacrifice of tax payers is way way beyond the marginal social benefits;non the less talking about reaching at the point where they will be equal. The major problem of Sierra Leone’s economy is corruption;embezzlement and mismanagement of funds. It’s very appalling how people are suffering in a country which they are sacrificing everything for.
People have been praying for better leadership, but it’s rather unfortunate that God is not idle that much to redo for people which he has already done;and all they’re left with is to utilize it.
