An alleged murder has shaken Mamamka Village, Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom, Tonkolili District. Pa Roke Fornah, a ceremonial chief and Town Chief aspirant, was arrested and detained at Mile 91 Police Station after Amadu Mambu Kamara died during a mediation session on Thursday, 22 January 2026.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the dispute began when female genital initiators, locally known as soweis, erected a sacred hut near Kamara’s residence. This sparked tensions between Sampa Memneh Kargbo, Head of the soweis, and Alpha Kanu, Principal of Ernest Bai Koroma Secondary School, Mamamka Village. The matter was referred to Pa Roke Fornah for mediation.
Kamara reportedly arrived to assist in resolving the dispute. Fornah allegedly pointed at him, after which Kamara collapsed and died. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
The body has been released to the family for burial according to community arrangements. The Sierra Leone Police, led by Senior Inspector Sahr Augustine Mafinda of Mile 91 Police Division, are investigating the incident. Residents have been urged to remain calm and allow the legal process to proceed.
