Caritas Freetown, in collaboration with its valued partner, the Tzu Chi Foundation, recently held a strategic partnership and coordination meeting with the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA).

Tzu Chi, an international humanitarian aid organization, is dedicated to relieving human suffering and creating a better world for all. In Chinese, “Tzu” means compassion, and “Chi” means reliefvalues that closely align with Caritas Freetown’s mission of serving the most vulnerable.

The NDMA, as Sierra Leone’s lead government institution for disaster risk management, plays a crucial role in safeguarding lives, livelihoods, and national development gains. The meeting provided an important platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and strengthening collaboration between government and humanitarian actors.

The engagement was described as highly successful, highlighting the critical role of cooperation and coordination during times of disaster. Participants also shared insights and lessons from Taiwan’s disaster management systems, which are recognized for their effectiveness in preparedness, early warning, and rapid response.

Caritas Freetown reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the NDMA, Tzu Chi, and other partners to build robust, coordinated, and people-centered disaster response mechanisms. The organization emphasized that communities should not face disasters alone but be supported with compassion, professionalism, and solidarity.

Partnership, coordination, and shared learning, the statement concluded, remain at the heart of effective humanitarian response.
