Security authorities are on high alert following reports of an alleged attempted jailbreak at the Port Loko Correctional Centre, where the facility is reportedly on fire.
Intelligence received by authorities suggested a possible prison break, prompting the North West Regional Commander, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Joseph Ibrahim Lahai, to order military reinforcements to assemble at the Garrison Barracks in Lungi for immediate deployment to strengthen security in the area.
Eyewitnesses reported thick smoke coming from the prison, though the cause of the fire, the extent of the damage, and whether there have been casualties or escapes have not yet been officially confirmed. At the time of reporting, details surrounding the incident remain unclear.

Authorities emphasized that security operations are ongoing to prevent any breach, safeguard the correctional facility, and ensure public safety. Residents have been urged to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continue.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as soon as official information becomes available.
