The Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MOICE) has convened its annual management retreat in Bonthe to outline the government’s communication and civic engagement strategy for 2026.
The three-day event, running from February 2nd to 4th, brings together senior officials and policy experts to align the Ministry’s goals with the national agenda.
A primary focus of this year’s retreat is responding to President Julius Maada Bio’s New Year declaration of 2026 as the “Year of Action.” Ministry officials stated that the retreat serves as a critical planning phase to ensure government communication is clear, timely, and results-oriented.
The Ministry aims to move beyond traditional reporting to create a more interactive relationship between the state and its citizens. Key objectives discussed include:
Enhanced Transparency: Developing frameworks to ensure public access to accurate and timely information.
Rural Outreach: Expanding civic education beyond urban centers to reach rural villages and remote communities.
Public Trust: Building stronger pathways for community involvement and national dialogue.
The retreat also serves as a workshop for refining Civic Education Strategies. Participants are tasked with creating innovative ways to encourage civic participation across all levels of society.
Ministry leadership emphasized that the serene environment of Bonthe was specifically chosen to allow staff to step away from daily routines and focus on long-term innovation. The outcomes of the sessions are expected to form the bedrock of the government’s outreach programs for the remainder of the year.
“Our goal is to share vital information clearly, timely, accurately, and effectively,” the Ministry wrote in a statement. “We are dedicated to creating pathways that promote transparency and empower citizens with knowledge.”
As the “Year of Action” begins, the Ministry intends to lead the government’s communication efforts with a renewed focus on accountability. The retreat is expected to conclude on February 4th with a finalized roadmap for 2026.
