The Chief Electoral Commissioner of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Edmond Alpha, has extended warm Easter greetings to Sierra Leoneans, calling for unity, peace, and renewed national commitment as Christians mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In his Easter Sunday message, Commissioner Alpha noted that the celebration, which follows the crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus Christ on Good Friday, represents a powerful symbol of hope, renewal, and victory over adversity. He described the occasion as a time for reflection, gratitude, and spiritual awakening, as families and communities come together to uphold the values of faith, love, and redemption.
He conveyed heartfelt wishes to the President, Julius Maada Bio, Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, government officials, development partners, and Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad.
Commissioner Alpha emphasised the importance of embracing unity, compassion, and national cohesion during the Easter season. He urged citizens to reflect on the teachings and sacrifices of Jesus Christ and to strengthen their commitment to peace, tolerance, and mutual respect. According to him, the period presents an opportunity to promote reconciliation and reinforce the bonds that unite the nation.
He also called on Sierra Leoneans to celebrate responsibly, stressing the need for discipline, respect for the rule of law, and consideration for others to ensure a peaceful and safe festive period across the country.
Highlighting the link between peace and national development, Commissioner Alpha shed light on the need for stability. He believes that it is essential for democratic progress and for building public confidence in institutions such as the ECSL. He encouraged citizens to see peace as a shared responsibility, particularly as the country continues to strengthen its democratic framework.
As the nation observes Easter, Commissioner Alpha’s message serves as a call for renewed hope, unity, and collective responsibility, urging all Sierra Leoneans to uphold peace and contribute to the continued progress and harmony of the country.
