Julius Maada Bio has declared that he will play a decisive role in determining the next flagbearer of the Sierra Leone People’s Party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking during the commissioning of infrastructure projects in Pujehun District, the President emphasized his authority over the party’s succession process, stating that he is ”fully in charge” of guiding how the flagbearer will emerge.
According to him, the process will be conducted in consultation with the party’s National Chairman, Jimmy Batilo Songa, to ensure a structured and coordinated transition of leadership within the ruling party.
The statement was made during a broader address highlighting the government’s continued focus on infrastructure development, national connectivity, and inclusive growth across Sierra Leone.
President Bio’s remarks are likely to spark political debate, as questions around internal party democracy and succession planning begin to take center stage ahead of the next electoral cycle.
