Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma, Sierra Leone’s Chief Forensic Expert and Pathologist at the Office of the Medical Examiner, has been awarded the Outstanding Professional Excellence Award at the 10th Annual African Ovation Awards.
The award was presented during a ceremony held at the Radisson Blu Hotel Aberdeen, organised by African Ovation Magazine, a platform dedicated to recognising excellence and performance across various sectors in Sierra Leone.
According to the organisers, Dr. Koroma was recognised for his professionalism, adherence to high ethical standards, and longstanding contributions to forensic pathology and public service. His work, particularly in conducting forensic autopsies and strengthening investigative procedures around suspicious deaths, has been noted as impactful within the country’s justice and health systems.
Speaking after receiving the award, Dr. Koroma expressed appreciation for the recognition, stating that it reflects the value of over three decades of service. He noted that the honour serves as motivation to continue contributing to national development through his field of expertise.
He also acknowledged the role of Julius Maada Bio for his appointment to the position, as well as Morie Lengor for providing leadership and support in addressing operational challenges.
Dr. Koroma further extended gratitude to the staff and management of the Office of the Medical Examiner, highlighting their collective efforts in fulfilling the institution’s mandate. However, he emphasised the need for improved resources and equipment to enhance the effectiveness of their work.
The recognition underscores the importance of forensic science in governance, accountability, and public safety, while also drawing attention to the institutional needs required to sustain such critical services.
The African Ovation Awards continue to spotlight individuals and institutions contributing to national progress, with this year’s event adding to the growing recognition of professional excellence in Sierra Leone.
