Residents in Freetown are expected to experience an eight-hour interruption in water supply on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, following a shutdown notice issued by Guma Valley Water Company (GVWC).
According to the notice dated 11 May 2026, water supply across the city will be temporarily suspended from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to allow urgent repair works on the 22-inch transmission pipeline at Black Tank, Adonkia.
Management of GVWC stated that the shutdown is necessary to facilitate the repairs and ensure the restoration of normal water supply within the stated timeframe.
The company apologized for any inconvenience the temporary interruption may cause and assured customers and the general public that every effort will be made to complete the maintenance work promptly.
The announcement comes as many households and businesses in Freetown continue to depend heavily on consistent water supply amid growing demand across the capital.
