President Julius Maada Bio has arrived in the United Kingdom ahead of scheduled engagements at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, where he is expected to deliver presidential addresses and interact with students and academic staff.

The Sierra Leonean leader announced his arrival in a statement following his entry into the UK, noting that the visit forms part of his academic and diplomatic engagements with the two globally renowned institutions.

I arrived in the United Kingdom ahead of my engagements at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge,” President Bio stated.

He further expressed anticipation about the upcoming programmes, saying he looked forward to delivering presidential speeches and holding meaningful discussions with members of the academic communities at both universities.

I look forward to delivering my presidential addresses and engaging meaningfully with the students and academic staff of these two distinguished centres of learning,” the President added.

The visit is expected to place focus on discussions surrounding governance, development, education, leadership and Sierra Leone’s engagement with international academic institutions.

The Universities of University of Oxford and University of Cambridge are widely regarded among the world’s leading centres of higher learning and have historically hosted global leaders, policymakers and scholars for high-level discussions on international issues.

President Bio’s engagements are also expected to strengthen academic and diplomatic ties between Sierra Leone and institutions in the United Kingdom.
