The Government of Sierra Leone has announced the appointment of renowned academic Joe A. D. Alie as Chancellor of Eastern Technical University, following a formal communication issued from State House in Freetown.
According to a letter dated June 8, 2026, signed from the Office of the President at State House, Tower Hill, Freetown, the appointment was made in accordance with Section 7(1) of the University Act No. 5 of 2021.
The letter stated that the appointment was made by His Excellency the President, Julius Maada Bio, who approved Prof. Alie’s elevation to the ceremonial and leadership position of Chancellor at the university.
State House noted that the terms and conditions of service relating to the appointment will be communicated in due course.
The communication further congratulated Prof. Alie on his appointment and wished him success in his new role. He has also been requested to inform the Office of the President of the effective date he will assume duty.
Prof. Joe A. D. Alie is widely recognized for his contributions to academia and historical scholarship in Sierra Leone, and his appointment is expected to strengthen the leadership profile of Eastern Technical University .
