The Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) has welcomed the passage of the revised Merchant Shipping Act by Parliament, describing it as a historic milestone in the modernisation of the country’s maritime sector.
According to the SLMA, the new legislation reflects Sierra Leone’s commitment to developing a modern, efficient, secure, and internationally competitive maritime industry. The Administration said the Act will play a key role in strengthening trade, attracting investment, safeguarding maritime resources, and boosting national economic growth.
The SLMA expressed appreciation to Parliament for its support and commitment to advancing reforms in the maritime sector. It also thanked the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Ambassador Alhaji Fanday Turay Esq, and his team for their leadership and support throughout the reform process.
The Administration said the passage of the revised Act underscores Sierra Leone’s determination to build a secure and globally competitive maritime industry capable of contributing significantly to national development.
