Admire Bio, the Niece of President Julius Maada Bio, has spent her second consecutive night in detention at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters, as police intensify a manhunt for her husband, Alhaji Dauzy Jalloh, in connection with an alleged $220,000 fraud scheme involving Italian nationals.
Bio, widely known by her moniker “Mama of Freetown,” was taken into custody earlier this week after responding to an invitation from police investigators, according to multiple sources familiar with the case. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement detailing the grounds for her detention, but police sources confirm she is being held in connection with a fraud-related probe.
The investigation centers on a massive alleged scam targeting two Italian businessmen. According to multiple sources, Admire Bio is accused of selling the foreign nationals fake gold in a transaction valued between $220,000 (approximately Le 55 Billion) and $300,000.
The situation escalated beyond fraud when, following the transaction, the Italian nationals were reportedly attacked and robbed by individuals allegedly linked to the suspect along the Mile 13 axis.
While the Sierra Leone Police have yet to issue a formal public statement, unofficial reports and local stakeholders suggest that Admire Bio has provided a statement to investigators in which she allegedly admitted to defrauding the businessmen. Police are reportedly preparing to charge her in court.
Reports say Police have also launched a manhunt for Admire’s husband, Alhaji Dauzy Jalloh, who is also wanted for questioning. According to social media posts attributed to political commentator Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) is pressing Jalloh to surrender by Monday, after which an arrest warrant will be issued.
The Sierra Leone Police have not issued any formal public statement on the matter.
