The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Swalihu K. Jusu, on Thursday, 17 June 2026, formally presented the newly appointed Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, Esq., to the Chinese Embassy in Freetown.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Sports, Hon. Madam Augusta James-Teima, P.S. Jusu noted that it is standard practice for the Ministry to introduce new NSA Executive Directors to the Chinese Embassy, given China’s longstanding role as a key partner in Sierra Leone’s sports development.

Discussions during the meeting focused on bilateral cooperation, ongoing stadium rehabilitation works, technical assistance, and capacity building for sports sector staff.

In his remarks, NSA Executive Director Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, Esq., expressed appreciation to the Chinese Embassy for the warm reception extended to him and his delegation.

He also called for expedited progress on the stadium rehabilitation project, noting concerns over delays and their impact on national sports development.

Conteh reaffirmed the National Sports Authority’s appreciation for China’s continued support to the sports sector.

Speaking on behalf of the Ambassador, Economic and Commercial Counsellor Wang Peng congratulated the new NSA Executive Director and welcomed the delegation, assuring them of the Embassy’s continued commitment to supporting sports development in Sierra Leone.

He added that the Embassy is aware of the challenges arising from the ongoing rehabilitation works and expressed optimism that the facility will soon be completed to modern standards.
