A WASSCE candidate, Salamatu Bangura, is receiving medical treatment after sustaining severe burn injuries in an alleged hot water attack reportedly carried out by a close friend in Grafton on June 1, 2026.

According to information provided by the victim, the incident occurred when she visited her friend, identified as Haja, to congratulate her on the birth of her child. What was expected to be a friendly visit allegedly turned violent when Haja reportedly poured hot water on her, causing serious injuries.

Salamatu alleged that the attack may have been linked to a past relationship involving a man who had previously been romantically involved with both women at different times. She explained that she had dated the man before he later entered into a relationship with Haja.

The victim further stated that her relationship with the man had ended some time ago and that they were no longer in contact. She added that she had maintained a cordial relationship with Haja until recently, when she noticed what she described as a change in her friend’s attitude toward her.

Following the incident, Salamatu was rushed to a medical facility, where she received emergency treatment for severe burns sustained during the alleged attack.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police at Grafton Police Station, leading to the arrest of Haja as investigations commenced.

Police have not yet released an official statement on the matter, but investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
