The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL), in collaboration with DIGNITY/NANHRI, on Friday, 26 June 2026, conducted a virtual workshop for staff at its headquarters and regional offices, focusing on preventive prison monitoring.
The workshop built on recommendations from a previous in-person training session and aimed at strengthening participants’ knowledge and practical skills in monitoring places of detention in line with national, regional, and international human rights standards.

According to organisers, the training forms part of a broader three-year programme designed to strengthen legal and institutional frameworks across Africa, to prevent torture and other forms of ill-treatment within justice systems.

Through this initiative, the HRCSL continues to enhance its institutional capacity to effectively monitor detention facilities and uphold the rights and dignity of individuals deprived of their liberty.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to promoting human rights and ensuring that detention conditions meet established standards across Sierra Leone.
