The Sierra Leone government has approved a reduction in fuel pump prices, effective immediately.
Following a meeting between the government and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) on Monday, petrol will now sell at NLe33 per litre, while diesel will cost NLe35 per litre.
The new prices represent a reduction of NLe2 on petrol and NLe5 on diesel from the previous rates of NLe35 and NLe40 per litre respectively.
Government announced it will continue to monitor fuel prices and review pump prices as necessary.
The reduction comes amid mounting public pressure for price cuts following the sharp decline in global crude oil prices and weeks of calls from citizens, civil society, and the Sierra Leone Labour Congress for adjustments to reflect international market trends.
