The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has commenced a three-day official working visit to Abuja, Nigeria, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing institutional collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The delegation, led by SLRSA Executive Director James B. Bio, is in Nigeria at the invitation of the Corps Marshal of the FRSC. As part of the visit, the delegation on Wednesday, July 1, paid a courtesy call on Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Julius F. Sandy, at the Sierra Leone High Commission in Abuja.

The SLRSA delegation was accompanied by senior officials of the FRSC, led by Assistant Corps Marshal for Policy, Abimbola Owolabi.

Speaking during the meeting, Bio said the visit is designed to deepen cooperation between the two road safety institutions through the exchange of expertise, operational experience, and best practices in road safety administration.

He said the engagement would further strengthen the longstanding relationship between Sierra Leone and Nigeria while providing SLRSA with the opportunity to study operational models employed by the FRSC that could be adapted to improve road safety management in Sierra Leone.

Bio also disclosed that the visit will conclude with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the SLRSA and the FRSC. The agreement is expected to enhance technical cooperation, facilitate knowledge sharing, and establish a framework for sustained collaboration between the two institutions.

Receiving the delegation, Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Julius F. Sandy, commended the SLRSA leadership for engaging with key Nigerian institutions to strengthen road safety governance.

He described institutional partnerships as vital to national development and reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between Sierra Leone and Nigeria, expressing confidence that closer cooperation between the two road safety agencies would deliver lasting benefits for both countries.

The SLRSA delegation includes Secretary to the Authority and Board, Abu-Bakarr Sheriff; Director of Finance, Joseph H. Momoh; Director of Human Resources, Assanatu Judith Mansaray; Director of Audit, Elizabeth Joko Bassey; and Manager of Research and Planning, Ambrose Tucker.

The visit forms part of SLRSA’s broader efforts to enhance institutional capacity and improve road safety administration through international cooperation and the adoption of proven best practices.
