The Chief Executive Officer of the National Public Procurement Authority (NPPA), Chief Fodie J. Konneh, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting independent media by donating Le30,000 towards the ongoing building project of the Society for Radio Democracy 98.1 FM.
Chief Konneh donated during a follow-up visit to the station’s headquarters in Freetown, fulfilling a pledge he made during an earlier courtesy visit on May 26, 2026. During that initial engagement, he toured the construction site and underscored the vital role of collaboration between public institutions and independent media in promoting national development.
Presenting the contribution, Chief Konneh said the support reflects his commitment to strengthening institutions that promote transparency, accountability and public awareness. He noted that independent media play a critical role in civic education and democratic governance.
The donation is expected to support the completion of Radio Democracy’s building project, which aims to enhance the station’s operational capacity and improve its working environment.
Chief Konneh also reiterated the need for stronger partnerships between state institutions and the media, stressing that collective efforts are essential for advancing transparency, public education, civic engagement and sustainable national development.
The gesture has been welcomed as a demonstration of support for independent journalism and the continued growth of Sierra Leone’s media landscape.
