Post a comment The Chairman of Artists For Peace Sierra Leone, Hassan Daramy, popularly known as CeeJay Mark, and members of his executive team have met with Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu to discuss a partnership aimed at promoting peace, non-violence, and national unity ahead of Sierra Leone’s upcoming elections.
The meeting, held at Police Headquarters in Freetown, focused on collaboration between Artists For Peace and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to encourage peaceful coexistence before, during, and after the electoral process.
CeeJay Mark said the organisation intends to use music, entertainment, and public engagement to educate citizens on peaceful dialogue and discourage political violence. He stressed that Artists For Peace is politically neutral and committed solely to promoting peace, national cohesion, and unity.
He noted that the campaign targets political actors, traditional leaders, young people, women, civil society groups, and communities, with the goal of protecting Sierra Leone’s peace and stability.
IGP William Fayia Sellu welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and aligned with the SLP’s community-oriented policing approach. He said partnerships with stakeholders are crucial to building public trust, strengthening security, and addressing social challenges.
The IGP encouraged Artists For Peace to continue its advocacy beyond elections and proposed the organisation of Peace and Non-Violence Concerts across the country to engage citizens, especially young people, on peaceful coexistence, respect for the rule of law, and national unity.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to working together to promote lasting peace, public safety, and a peaceful democratic process in Sierra Leone.
