Presidential Spokesperson Hon. Alpha Khan delivered a poetic response on the Epic Morning Show today after opposition MP Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara raised concerns about the country’s electricity supply.
During the programme, Khan recited a short, rhythmic piece titled “Get Light”, naming a series of towns and cities that he said now have access to electricity.
In his recital, Khan listed several locations, saying: “Moyamba get light; Pujehun get light; Bo get light; Bonthe get light; Kenema get light; Kailahun get light; Kono get light; Magburaka get light; Makeni get light; Kabala get light; Kamakwie get light; Rokupr get light; Port Loko get light; Mabomlo get light; Lunsar get light; Freetown get light; Newton get light,” before asking, “Let me call more?”
Khan acknowledged that electricity supply in Freetown remains unstable, stating that the government is aware of the challenges and is working to address them. He explained that the electricity authority occasionally shuts down equipment temporarily to allow systems to cool and ensure more effective operations, describing the measure as necessary for long-term reliability.
The Presidential Spokesperson also announced what he described as a recent government intervention in Lungi, stating that the town has been receiving a 10-megawatt, 24-hour electricity supply since 22 July 2026. He added that plans are underway to connect Lungi to the Kingtom power station in Freetown to strengthen electricity supply in the capital.
“We at the north-west have enough electricity,” Khan said as he defended the government’s record on electricity access while acknowledging the continuing supply challenges in Freetown.
