The Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd. AIG Morie Lengor, received the Independent Police Complaint Board (IPCB) investigation report concerning the June 21, 2026 Kailahun incident resulting in the death of a bike rider and subsequent partial burning of police barracks in the district.
IPCB Chairman, Mr. Saa Kpulum presented the findings at the Ministry’s headquarters on Gloucester Street, Freetown.
Chairman Kpulum said that the investigation indicated the death of the bike rider, which triggered Kailahun unrest, leading to youth vandalism of police barracks and residential quarters. He added that the investigation started when IPCB investigation team was deployed to Kailahun on June 22nd with support from the Ministry of Internal Affairs to conduct an independent inquiry per the Board’s legal mandate.
He announced that the report findings would be presented in a public presentation in Kailahun, further expressing appreciation to the Minister for facilitating the investigation.
Receiving the report, Minister Lengor assured the IPCB that his Ministry would carefully study the findings and take appropriate action as necessary. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to promoting professionalism, accountability, and objective investigations concerning public safety and security matters.
Minister Lengor appreciated Chairman Kpulum and the IPCB team for showing dedication and professionalism in conducting the investigation, describing their work as an important contribution to justice and public confidence in Sierra Leone’s security institutions.
