The Government has announced that President Dr. Julius Maada Bio will officially open Sierra Leone’s first-ever National Paramount Chiefs Conference, scheduled for 30 July to 1 August 2026 in Bo City.
Speaking at the Government’s Weekly Press Conference at the Miatta Civic Center in Freetown, Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Ambassador Tamba John Lamina, said the conference will bring together Paramount Chiefs, Regent Chiefs, local councils, security sector representatives and key government institutions under the theme “Strengthening Chieftaincy for Security and Governance.”
He described the event as a historic national engagement aimed at deepening collaboration between traditional authorities and the state on governance, peace, security and local development.
According to the Minister, several Ministries, Departments and Agencies will participate in discussions focused on environmental management, conflict prevention and conflict resolution, with the broader goal of strengthening coordination between central government, local councils and chiefdom authorities.
Ambassador Lamina said the conference is expected to produce practical recommendations that will support effective governance and accelerate national development across the country.
