The National Medical Supplies Agency (NMSA) has delivered seven truckloads of essential medicines and medical supplies to the Tonkolili District Health Management Team (DHMT) as part of its quarterly distribution of Free Healthcare commodities to strengthen healthcare service delivery across Sierra Leone.
During the handover, NMSA Director of Human Resources Robert Dixon said the distribution is in line with the Agency’s mandate to procure, store, and distribute medicines nationwide. He disclosed that four truckloads would be sent to the District Medical Store for distribution to Peripheral Health Units (PHUs), two to Tonkolili Government Hospital, and one to Masanga Hospital. He urged health workers to ensure the medicines reach their intended beneficiaries, particularly pregnant women, lactating mothers, children under five, persons with disabilities, and Ebola and COVID-19 survivors.
The ceremony was witnessed by Hon. Foyoh Tholly, a member of Parliament’s Oversight Committee on Health, who commended NMSA’s efforts and warned that anyone found diverting or misusing government medicines would face the full force of the law. Ibrahim Pelus Kamara, District Coordinator of Health Alert, pledged civil society’s support in monitoring the distribution process.
Receiving the consignment, Dr. Mohamed Allieu Shour, Hospital Superintendent of Tonkolili Government Hospital, thanked the Government of Sierra Leone and NMSA for the timely delivery, describing the medicines as vital to quality healthcare. He assured stakeholders that the supplies would be properly managed and used for the benefit of patients.
The distribution forms part of NMSA’s ongoing efforts to ensure the uninterrupted availability of safe, quality, and effective medicines while supporting the Government’s drive to strengthen Sierra Leone’s healthcare system.
