The Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr Isata Mahoi, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening child protection and advancing children’s rights in Sierra Leone, as she received the new Country Representative of UNICEF, Ms Mariko Kagoshima, during a courtesy visit at her office.
Welcoming Ms Kagoshima, the Minister emphasised that safeguarding children remains a top priority for the Government, noting that strong partnerships with development agencies such as UNICEF are critical to achieving lasting progress.
She expressed deep appreciation for UNICEF’s continued support to the Ministry, highlighting its significant contributions to strengthening child protection systems, promoting child welfare, and ensuring that vulnerable children across the country receive the care and protection they deserve.
“The Government remains fully committed to working closely with UNICEF to ensure that every child in Sierra Leone is safe, protected, and allowed to thrive,” the Minister stated.
The Minister also underscored the importance of sustained collaboration in addressing challenges affecting children, including protection risks and access to essential services, stressing that no child should be left behind.
Ms Kagoshima congratulated the Minister on her leadership and reaffirmed UNICEF’s readiness to support the Ministry’s priorities, noting that the partnership will continue to deliver meaningful results for children nationwide.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment by both parties to deepen cooperation, promote children’s rights, strengthen protection frameworks, and build a safer and more inclusive future for all children in Sierra Leone.
