SLFA Offers Le75,000 Ex Gratia Support to Family of Late Footballer Bureh Ganso Koroma

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has paid an ex gratia sum of Le75,000 to the family of the late Bureh Ganso Koroma, a former Mighty Blackpool Football Club player, as part of measures arising from the findings of an independent adhoc committee that investigated allegations of negligence surrounding his death.

The payment was announced by the SLFA in a press release issued on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, and signed by Ibrahim Kamara, Head of Media and Marketing.

According to the Association, the financial support fulfils one of the recommendations made by the adhoc committee established by the SLFA Executive Committee to examine concerns relating to the handling of the incident by officials of the SLFA and the Sierra Leone National Men’s Team during the previous administration.

Bureh Ganso Koroma sustained severe injuries following an on-field collision during a friendly match between Leone Stars and Mighty Blackpool FC in May 2025. The circumstances surrounding his death generated widespread public concern and prompted the SLFA to institute an independent investigation into the matter.

The Association said the committee conducted a thorough inquiry and subsequently presented several recommendations, including the provision of financial support to the bereaved family.

The SLFA Executive Committee accepted the committee’s recommendations and has now completed the disbursement of the Le75,000 ex gratia payment to the family of the deceased.

In its statement, the SLFA extended its deepest condolences to the family of Bureh Ganso Koroma and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of players and maintaining transparency, accountability, and high standards of care across all levels of football in Sierra Leone.
